  when the two sons of hardcore JWs finally dared to play football with the congregation, they came along in slacks and shirts too. i think they were about 25 by then. they soon started to use jeans for work and one of them even learned how to swim. but they still are hardcore JWs.

  president nicolas sarkozy said his government was forwarding the legislation to parliament because it had a "moral responsibility" to uphold traditional european values in the face of an increasingly visible muslim population, estimated at more than 5 million, the largest in western europe.

  he called the course chosen by his government "demanding" but "just," and he insisted that the law was not intended to stigmatize the country's muslims.

  every religion has it's list of intolerance, but currently islam is the most threatening religion. catholics don't run around killing people when some weird mullah burns a bible, but muslims do when some weird priest burns a quran.

  most muslim women don't wear burqa. this has nothing to do with religious freedom. there are things that can't be covered by religious freedom. what about female circumsition? would you support that too?

  rastafarians are not allowed to smoke weed either, although it's part of their religion...

  if, as evolutionists claim, all of mankind evolved from the same primitive life-source, then how did we end up with 7,000 different languages?

  did one gorilla get angry at another gorilla and decide to start a new language?

  i'm intrigued to know.. .

  Can We Please Stop Referring To The Simplified English Watchtower A The Dumbed Down Version

  i really shouldn't have to say any of this but as someone who is in the process of learning a second language, i can tell that simple language makes things a lot clearer when you are not familiar with the language.

  everyone on here started out reading simplified english while they were learning, including you native speakers.

  i'm sure no one here was reading on a college level in elementary school.

  actually mandarin is the most widely spoken language. closely followed by english, then spanish (even though there are more spanish native speakers than english).

  Memorial musings

  things i thought about during the memorial talk last night:.

  i don't know if it was just the memorial i went to or if this was across the board, but it seems that the talk was dumbed down a bit more than it had been in the past.

  not that it wouldn't surprise me if was dumbed down.

  give him the book (i didn't read it, but i guess it's good), and get on with your life. life's to short to wait for someone. he'll eventually catch up with you or not... live your life, if he's not up to it, don't wait.

  i just came back from the memorial

  it wasn't all that bad.

  met a few friends who also don't give too much about it and had some great laughs afterwards.

  we talked about how we still remember when only about 7000 took from the emblems and now its more than 11000. we also laughed about how it would look like having jesus and his disciples pass around wine and bread on a plate like that.. all in all it was the same procedure as every year.

  i went for my in-laws... my mom was pretty happy though, dunno why... as if she never listened to what i say.

  (alright, this is just a cheap btt, i want to have at least one of my threads accomplish more than 3 pages...)

  you might well ask that question, do we need a messiah?

  yes, it would be logical to wonder whether a messiah would have any real effect on you.. .

  some whose opinion you may respect would assure you that the answer is clear and unequivocal: you definitely do need a messiah, just as much as everyone else does.. .

  The condition of the dead

  a self-proclaimed knowledge of the jehovahs witnesses is the condition of the dead, knowledge that somehow the rest of the world has missed.

  their claim to this knowledge comes from a unique interpretation of the bible.

  to even entertain this belief, the reader must also trust the bible as a reliable source of information.. the jehovahs witnesses reinforce this knowledge of death and resurrection with attractive images of the paradise to come.. .

  i read a book - i bought it twice, because i lent it to someone else, i guess my brother or some other JW - called "how to debate with fundamentalists - or guide to subversive thinking", which helped me a lot identifying common discussion cheats like red herrings, strawmen and the like. it was an eye opener. it was written by a viennese jew, dunno if it is available in english, but i recommend it to anyone familiar with the german language.
